The care provided by SUNCHILD ACADEMY is based on the belief that each child should be given the opportunity to develop to his or her maximum potential through a variety of sensory, concrete, hands-on learning experiences.  We strive to make learning fun for children, while providing a warm and nurturing environment.  We respect each child as a unique individual and recognize the differences in each child’s rate of physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners.  Classrooms are designed to nurture curiosity, exploration, and investigation and allow time for independent activity as well as cooperative play. The classrooms and teacher-child interactions encourage problem solving and creativity in a safe environment.  Parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged.

Because a child’s self-esteem is very precious, teachers are employed who respect and enjoy children, and who delight in the milestones of development that take place in the early years of life.

Our Curriculum

The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. We encourage them to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try their ideas and to think their own thoughts. Our goal is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners. We teach them how to learn, not just in preschool, but all through their lives.

We allow them to learn at their own pace and in ways that are best for them. We teach them to have good habits and attitudes, and a positive sense of themselves, which will help them succeed throughout their lives.
Our curriculum identifies goals in all areas of development:

SocialSocial: to help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.

EmotionalEmotional: to help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life.

CognitiveCognitive: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

PhysicalPhysical: to help children increase their large and small muscle skills, coordination, balance, and to feel confident about what they physically can do.

Literacy

Another primary goal of our curriculum at SUNCHILD ACADEMY is to promote literacy.  Literacy refers to reading and writing skills, and builds on oral language skills such as speaking and listening.  The early childhood years – birth to 8 years – are the most important period for literacy development. Our curriculum continually promotes literacy by offering many materials, areas and activities for children to experiment with words, letters and numbers.

Our program includes:  language arts, music, perceptual activities, manipulative toys, math readiness, science, art, outdoor play, learning centers, storytelling and comprehension, dramatization, reading readiness, writing, cooking and many special projects. As success is experienced in early learning activities and play, children will become more confident and self-motivated, develop strong feelings of self-worth and positive self-esteem, and develop a life-long love of learning.
